In the small community of Cape St. Claire, our home sits on 2/3 acre, overlooking the Magothy River, one of the widest rivers in Maryland; and a tidal lake. Enjoy spectacular views of the Magothy River and Gibson Island, glimpse ships at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, and watch the wildlife over pristine Lake Claire. Six steps down from the back yard connects you directly to the river's narrow sandy beach (no streets to cross). Swimming in the river is very suitable for all ages, as it is very shallow for quite a ways before getting over one's head. A short walk down is a quiet community pier for crabbing, fishing, and watching the sunset with a glass of wine, and an expansive beach for laying out in the sand. While the river is directly behind our house, our property also overlooks Lake Claire. The lake is a wildlife theater. Depending on the time of year, you can watch majestic osprey hover motionless over the lake, then dive for fish; or you will see the comings and goings of other waterfowl, such as Canada geese, mallard ducks, great blue herons, stark white snowy egrets, cormorants, and the occasional Bald Eagle. Our in-ground saltwater pool overlooks the river and the lake, has rainbow night lighting, 10 chaise lounges, and a small table with seating for 10, and is completely fenced and lockable for parents' peace of mind. Other outdoor amenities on this property are 2 kayaks, a private screened-in outdoor shower, firepit with plenty of wood, a lower-level deck with 6-seat table for al fresco dining, a screened porch with ceiling fan and seating for 7+, a gas grill and charcoal grill, 2 Adirondack chairs, 4 patio umbrellas, a hammock, and for outdoor gatherings and crab feasts, several folding tables and enough folding chairs to seat all 14 guests. An upper deck and high bistro table for 4 is perfect for taking in the panoramic views. The Wednesday night sailboat races are lovely to watch over a glass of wine from the upper deck. This farmhouse-style home sleeps 10 (5 bedrooms) in real beds, and is decorated in a simple, clean, country style. There is no formal living room or dining room, but rather one relaxed, open layout, conducive to cooking, dining, and hanging out together. The many windows and multiple French doors to decks and porches were meant to connect the house with nature and the views, and take in lots of natural light. Two sides of the house face water, and those sides are nearly all glass. The river at sunrise is astounding, and the moonrise over the lake is very enchanting. The main level's open living room/dining room/kitchen features 9½-ft. ceilings with transom-topped windows and French doors, and honey-stained oak floors. The living room has ample seating, a 48" flat-screen TV, and a natural stone hearth with soapstone woodstove, great for chilly nights. French doors open out to the screened porch, which will end up being your favorite room of the house. The 9-ft dining table normally seats eight, but we have more chairs. The server & china cabinet have tons of servingware. The cheerful kitchen -- white, wood, and brass -- gets the morning and afternoon light, and is the pride of the home, with fresh potted herbs, birch countertops, Italian 36" stove (4 gas burners, center griddle, convection oven), soft-close cabinets, ceramic farmhouse sink, center island with counter stools, an additional sink, and RO filter. Appliances include a spacious side-by-side refrigerator, a very quiet dishwasher with 3 racks, microwave, large convection toaster oven, and all the small things you will need (coffee machine, toaster, food processor, blender, coffee grinder, citrus juicer, Kitchenaid mixer, immersion blender, ice cream maker, and a myriad of dishes & cookware). The large pantry is fully stocked, and guests are welcome to use any of the ingredients. The conversation area expands up a few steps to the "Overlook" level, which is open to the living room, and has seating for 8 more, and a small desk. The Overlook opens out to a separate deck for enjoying the river views. On this level is also a guest half-bath, 3 bedrooms (queen, queen, two twins) with empty, usable dressers and closets, and a shared full bath. There's also another full bathroom 9 steps down the stairs in the finished basement/man-cave. The upper level features wood floors, separate zone for AC, washer/dryer; and a master bedroom that makes you feel pampered, with queen bed, sitting area with coffee bar, ceiling fan, cathedral ceilings, and French doors to a private open deck overlooking the river and lake with bistro table and chairs for 4. Also on this level is a small bedroom with a full bed. Both the Master bedroom and full bedroom have doors that open directly (Jack & Jjill style) to a large shared full bathroom with 2 sinks, 2-person soaking tub, and ceramic walk-in shower, and 2 large windows. The basement has a 60" flat-screen TV, seating for 6, mini-fridge (stocked with assorted sodas and bottled water for you), full bathroom, and direct access to the back yard and pool. All paper goods, bed linens, bath towels, beach towels, and cleaning products are provided for your use. For those sensitive to fragrances and dyes, we do not use scented laundry products. The bed linens and covers are mostly cotton (such as high thread count 100% cotton sheets), and freshly laundered (no yucky polyester bedspreads). We machine wash all the bed linens down to and including the mattress pads for each rental. If you have sailboat or power boat, locally-owned Fairwinds Marina is an easy 5-minute walk down the street. Although this is our home, we are open to renting most any time in the summer. If you are interested in renting for Commissioning Week 2019 or future years, we have a 7 night minimum, but we are very open to the range of dates you want to stay. We are located 8 miles from the Naval Academy in downtown Annapolis, 5 miles from the Bay Bridge, 22 miles from Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI), 25 miles from Six Flags amusement park, 29 miles from the Baltimore Inner Harbor, 40 miles from the White House, and 26 miles from the closest stop of the DC Metro, very convenient for hopping on and off to see the many D.C. sites.
